Let me tell you why eating 1-2 meals/day isn’t healthy for you. You should be eating 5-6 meals/day! Then you’ll start to feel great, your blood sugar will balance out, your cravings will diminish, and you’ll have more energy! When I recommend to people that they actually have to EAT MORE in order to be healthy, they think it’s ridiculous or tell me “that” doesn’t work for them. So, let me explain.
Your body is a machine. Every machine needs fuel to run – like your car needs gas. If you don’t give your car enough gas, it runs out of fuel and doesn’t go anymore until you put in more gas. But, if you keep gas in it, fill up regularly – you can go without hesitation and with enough power for a long drive. Your body is the same way.
You must keep fuel in your body. Start with breakfast. Yes, breakfast. You HAVE to eat breakfast. How can you “go” without fuel? You can putter along, but not effectively. You start with breakfast by eating a balanced meal. This kick starts your metabolism (your engine) to get going. Now, your body is “started”. Every 2.5 to 3 hours, you should feed your body again. This keeps your metabolism running effectively so your body can actually process and use the food you put into it rather than storing it.
If you are the person who has one big meal per day, you may consume a day’s worth of calories at that one meal, but your body can’t use effectively all those calories during one sitting. Your metabolism goes on overdrive and your body “saves” the food it can’t readily digest and use. So, you start to gain weight, your liver function decreases, your blood sugar elevates, and you feel sluggish. This isn’t the healthy option.
When planning your meals for the day, always choose lean cuts of meat, healthy oils, lots of vegetables, and avoid anything processed. It’s best to spread your meals out into six smaller, more frequent meals. You’ll feel like you’re eating ALL day, but your body will thank you!
BOTTOM LINE: Eat SIX small meals per day evenly spaced throughout the day for a healthier you with more energy!
