Those of you who know me, know that I LOVE STRONG coffee! Not just coffee, but REALLY STRONG coffee with a seriously robust taste! The caffeine kick is nice too, but I LOVE the taste! People wonder if it’s “ok” to drink coffee and how much is “ok”. Let me tell you what I’ve learned!
No need to feel guilty about that second cup of coffee you drink in the morning or the espresso you gulp around 3pm! Research shows that coffee is actually GOOD for you! Compared to non-coffee drinkers, those who DO drink coffee (2-5 cups/day) are less likely to have Parkinson’s disease, a stroke, Type 2 diabetes, & dementia. Because coffee contains caffeine, it is also a stimulant, which increases memory, productivity, exercise capacity, & alertness. On the flip side, it also increases blood pressure (a negative effect if you already have high blood pressure) & acts as a diuretic (so you might run to the bathroom more often). Contrary to what I thought, the darker the roast, the less caffeine the coffee contains. Light roast coffee actually has MORE of a caffeine kick than espresso! Who knew?
I’m not suggesting you start drinking coffee if you don’t already or that you drink a pot of coffee (!); everything in moderation of course! Be smart; a cup or two a day is “ok”. BUT, drink it black. Adding cream & sugar turns your metabolism stimulating drink into a dessert!
Go ahead, enjoy your coffee! I do – very much!
