Why Acupuncture

The simple answer to “why acupuncture” is “why not?” Acupuncture is an ancient healing art that has been practiced for centuries with great success. It is appropriate for a variety of medical conditions including migraines, fibromyalgia, emotional disorders, chronic and acute pain, digestive disorders, hypertension, insomnia, fatigue, fertility, gynecological disorders, menopausal symptoms, and overall well-being. Acupuncture modalities utilized during treatments with Dr. Tanya include moxibustion, Japanese style acupuncture, cupping, Shakuju, and auricular acupuncture. Individual quality time is spent with each patient to get to know them, their life, and what is ailing them at the moment.

Battlefield Acupuncture

In 2001, the Department of Defense implemented “battlefield acupuncture” as standard of care for all Veterans with any sort of pain. Battlefield acupuncture is an auricular acupuncture protocol for pain management. Up to five (5) semi-permanent needles are inserted per ear, based on how the patient is feeling after each needle is inserted. The treatment takes 10-15 minutes, the needles are left in place, and they will fall out on their own in 2-7 days. Patients report 80% reduction in pain after this treatment. If you suffer from pain (i.e. low back pain, headaches, knee pain, any pain, etc.), battlefield acupuncture might be an effective way to manage it.

Cost is $30/treatment

Microneedling

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation treatment. Microneedling is used to treat fine lines, acne scarring, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage. Microneedles puncture your skin at a controlled rate and shallow depth (much less than an acupuncture needle) to cause a micro-injury. This stimulates the body’s own natural healing process, which improves the skin texture and firmness by increasing collagen and elastin production. The treatments are performed in a safe and precise manner with a sterile needle head and are usually complete in 30 minutes.

The microneedling treatment allows for controlled induction of growth factor serums, or hyaluronic acid, into the skin. Hyaluronic acid hydrates the skin and the serums help with repair and growth of collagen and elastin. The result is smoother, firmer, and younger looking skin.

Clients will notice a smoother appearance in their skin a few weeks after the first treatment. The best results are following 3-4 treatments and can last up to 3 years.

Cost is $250 per treatment.

Ladie’s Night In

I love spending time with my friends and I love staying home! Maybe you do too? This is why I created “Ladie’s Night In” parties! You and 3-4 of your girlfriends can choose to have a private Acupuncture party to destress & unwind or a Microneedling party to reduce fine lines & wrinkles and get glowing skin! Both options will make you feel your best! And, it’s all done in the comfort of your own home!

“The loveliest acupuncture I have ever experienced. She makes sure that I am as comfortable as possible. I am NO fan of needles. I watch phlebotomists with a sharp eye to make sure they do it correctly. I explicitly trust Tanya. She works diligently and with great care and concern for my very uncomfortable skin issues.”

DOUGLAS BOYD

“I highly recommend Tanya to anyone seeking a caring, intelligent and gifted Acupuncturist. She was my healer. I could not wait to get home from the hospital to see Tanya with her needles and moxa. She helped me to feel better without western medications that I think have serious adverse effects. It is always nice to see her smiling face.”

DENISE PATNOD, Licensed Acupuncturist and Pain Specialist

“Tanya has been treating me for aches and pains, difficulty sleeping, allergies, stress, and head injuries for 10 years. Whatever is ailing me Tanya finds the root and explains and connects symptoms. Sessions with Tanya are very calming and comfortable. Every time I walk out of her studio I feel a decrease in pain and a weight off of my shoulders.”

Acupuncture FAQ

Does it hurt?

No, acupuncture does not hurt. Insertion of the nedle can feel like a pinching sensation. When Qi arrives at the point, you may feel a dull ache around the needle or a sense of warmth or cold, but there should be no pain.

How long is a treatment?

Treatments vary from 45-60 minutes, depending on the type of adjunctive techniques needed.

What should I expect on my first visit?

After discussing your symptoms and condition, we will discuss a treatment plan to help the best we can. With this information, you will then receive an acupuncture treatment.

How safe is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is extremely safe. We use only disposable needles. There is little danger of infection from acupuncture needles because they are sterile, used only once, and then discarded.

How should I prepare for a treatment?

Wear loose fitting clothes. Don’t eat a big meal just before or after your visit. Avoid caffeine right before your treatment. Come with any questions or comments you may have about acupuncture, your treatment, and medical condition.

Do you take insurance?

I do not accept insurance, but I am happy to provide you with a receipt to submit to your health insurance company for reimbursement if it is covered by your insurance.

Is acupuncture covered under my flexible spending account?

It varies with each insurance company, but typically yes. You would pay for the acupuncture treatment at the time of the appointment, and then get reimbursed by your insurance company once you submit a receipt. I will provide you with a receipt to submit to your insurance company.
